Heirs To Commercial Real Estate Fortunes Are Great Borrowers!

There is an old and wise Chinese proverb that goes like this:

  1. First generation peasant.
  2. Second generation buys land.
  3. Third generation mortgages land.
  4. Fourth generation peasant.

It has been my experience that the heirs to large commercial real estate portfolios borrow against their newly-inherited commercial properties in about two nano-seconds. Then they come back and refinance these same commercial properties again and again. Heirs to large commercial real estate portfolios are great leads. Stay close to these guys!

An airline pilot wrote that on this particular flight he had hammered his ship into the runway really hard. The airline had a policy which required the first officer to stand at the door while the passengers exited, smile, and give them a, "Thanks for flying XYZ airline." He said that in light of his bad landing, he had a hard time looking the passengers in the eye, thinking that someone would have a smart comment. Finally, everyone had gotten off except for this little old lady walking with a cane. She said, "Sonny, did we land or were we shot down?"

On a Personal Note

Having lived half my life in sunny California and the other half in snowy Indiana, it amazes me how the weather can effect the whole Christmas experience. While I am still surprised by how cold Indiana winters can be, there is no Christmas like a white Christmas. There is just something about a fresh blanket of snow outside that amplifies everything. The fire burns brighter, the laughter more boisterous, the family seems closer and the holiday spirit is even more present. If I had to choose between a warm California Christmas and a snow covered Indiana one, Indiana would win hands down.

Except this year...when we had no snow, freezing rain and had just miserable weather...I could have gone with a California Christmas this year.

Final Funny

Bill and Bob, longtime golfing buddies, were involved in a match-play contest with the score "all-square" at the 18th tee. Bill slices his tee shot way left, and the ball finally stops on the cart path. Meanwhile, Bob smashes his first shot straight down the middle. "Oh well," says Bill, "I should get a free drop from there." "Heck no," says Bob, "We play the ball as it lies." And so Bill did. After dropping his opponent on the middle of the fairway, Bill took the golf cart to his lie on the concrete path. Sparks fly from the cart path, as Bill makes a few aggressive practice swings. Finally, Bill hits the ball off the cart path, leaving a miraculous shot only 3 feet from the pin. As the two meet in the fairway, Bob comments, "That was a great shot...what club did you use?" "Your 6 iron," says Bill.
